What health services are involved?

The Victorian ECMO Service is a collaboration between all Victorian hospitals, who work closely with Adult Retrieval Victoria and is currently being delivered by seven health services.

Alfred Health

The Alfred Hospital is the designated tier 1 site for the Victorian ECMO Service, treating their first ECMO patient in 1998, with the formal Alfred ECMO service starting in 2003.

Austin Health

Austin Health is a major tertiary/quaternary hospital in north-east Melbourne, with over 600 acute and sub-acute beds. Additionally, it provides state-wide services in support of liver transplantation, Spinal cord injury and long-term ventilatory support.

Barwon Health - University Hospital Geelong

University Hospital Geelong (UHG) services a catchment area of over 350,000 people, covering the city of Geelong and extending to the Victorian southwestern region.

Eastern Health - Box Hill Hospital

The Eastern Health ECMO Service is an established medical ECMO program providing all forms of peripheral ECMO to adult patients in the eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne.

Melbourne Health - Royal Melbourne Hospital

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of two designated Victorian Intermediate ECMO centres, providing both initiation and ongoing care to ECMO patients.

Monash Health - Monash Medical Centre

Monash Medical Centre is a 640-bed teaching and research hospital of international standing, providing a comprehensive range of specialist surgical, medical, allied health and mental health services to our community.

St Vincent's Hospital

The St Vincent's ECMO team provide ECMO support to St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and St Vincent’s Private Fitzroy which exist on the one campus. The service provides VV and VA ECMO as well as select eCPR applications.
